Source notes

How the score works

Every error counts as one full mistake: a spelling mistake, a missed or repeated word, a wrong word or a missing punctuation mark. Mistakes up to 5% of the words you typed are allowed. Each mistake beyond that takes 10 words off your total, and your speed is worked out from what is left. The result screen shows the counted mistakes and the deductions. The score cannot fall below zero.

Typing tips

A wrong word is not worth going back for. Correction keys behave the way the table above describes, so stopping to fight one word costs you more than the word is worth. Check the result screen afterwards to see what actually went wrong.

  • Check the free allowance and deduction shown in your result. The allowance depends on how much you typed.
  • The preset defaults to Hindi Remington GAIL. Other available layouts are practice options, not proof of official acceptance.

How to practise for the CAPF HC(M) typing test

The preset runs ten minutes at 35/30 WPM with a 5% error allowance, then takes ten words off per mistake beyond it. Spread over the whole attempt, one extra penalised mistake is roughly one WPM off your final number. That is arithmetic for this configured deduction, not a claim that every CAPF assessment scores the same way.

Open a result that shows deductions and trace which errors caused them. Two mistakes past the allowance remove about 20 words, or 2 WPM over ten minutes. If those were missed capitals, drill sentence openings with Shift. If they were missing spaces, drill the transition between words instead. Matching the drill to the error that cost you words beats another general speed run.

Do not try to spend the allowance on purpose. An unfamiliar name or a number later in an unseen passage can eat more of it than a quick mental count suggests, so treat the 5% as a safety margin rather than a budget.

Remington GAIL with Mangal font is the Hindi arrangement named in the CRPF advertisement. Use the arrangement your own notice names if you are preparing for another recruitment.

For Hindi key combinations and matras, see the Hindi typing guide. The scoring guide explains the speed and error figures shown in your practice result.

Keyboard layouts

English practice uses QWERTY. For Hindi you can pick Mangal Remington. Check the layout named in your own exam notice before learning the keys.

Common questions

What targets does this practice test use?

English QWERTY runs at 35 WPM. Hindi runs at 30 WPM on Mangal Remington. The CRPF HC(M) advertisement permits Hindi only on the Remington GAIL key layout with Mangal font.

How do correction keys work here?

Backspace only edits the word in progress. Delete and navigation are off. This is a simulator constraint. The notice does not specify editing-key behaviour at this level of detail.

Does this result establish official qualification?

No. This gives you a practice net speed under the notice's 5%-allowance model. CRPF's own recruitment cell decides who qualifies.

How long is the CRPF HCM typing test?

The 2022 CRPF advertisement doesn't say. It sets the speed (35 WPM English or 30 WPM Hindi), the Hindi layout and the 5% mistake rule, and leaves the procedure to the department. This practice test uses 10 minutes, so check the instructions with your admit card.
