About this practice test

Practise the SSC CHSL typing test for LDC and JSA on the official 10-minute timer, at 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi. Hindi runs on Mangal, the only font the notice allows for these posts. The DEO skill test is a different task and is covered on the data entry page.

How the score works

In the SSC CHSL typing test practice, counted mistakes are taken off your total and your speed comes from the words that are left. A full mistake counts as one and a half mistake counts as half. After the test you can see which mistakes counted and what each one took off. The score cannot fall below zero.

SSC's evaluation guidelines name six full mistakes and five half mistakes; how SSC counts typing test mistakes goes through each one. For practice text in the style SSC uses, see the SSC typing test passages.

Typing tips

Keep typing when you slip. Correction keys behave the way the table above describes, so stopping to fight one word costs you more than the word is worth. Check the result screen afterwards to see what actually went wrong.

  • Check each word before pressing Space. In this practice test, Backspace cannot take you back to an earlier word.
  • Keep the same layout for lessons and timed practice. Changing layouts also changes where you find the characters.

Preparation guide

Practise a full 10-minute passage in the language you will use for the test. Aim for 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi, while copying the words, spaces and punctuation accurately.

After each attempt, check the marked mistakes. Practise the words you missed slowly, then try a fresh passage. If you keep making the same errors, work on those before pushing for more speed.

The SSC CHSL preparation guide has a practice routine. For Hindi key combinations and matras, see the Hindi typing guide. The scoring guide explains the speed and error figures shown in your practice result.

Keyboard layouts

English practice uses QWERTY. For Hindi the CHSL notice is strict: candidates who choose Hindi for the LDC or JSA typing test must type in Mangal font only, and it says the use of any other font leads to non-qualification. Mangal InScript and Mangal Remington GAIL are both Mangal font with different key positions, so both are offered here. Kruti Dev is a different font and is not offered for this exam. To practise Mangal on its own, use the Mangal typing test.

Common questions

Does this cover the DEO skill test?

No. This preset covers LDC and JSA typing. CHSL DEO candidates take a separate data-entry skill test under section 13.9.13 of the 2026 notice.

What if I am eligible for extra time?

The notice gives candidates eligible for a scribe 5 minutes of compensatory time, so the typing test runs 15 minutes instead of 10. Visually handicapped candidates who opted for a scribe are given a passage dictator. A candidate certified unable to type by a Civil Surgeon may be exempted from the typing test on Annexure-XIII, though that exemption does not cover visually or hearing handicapped candidates.

Are these the official error cutoffs?

SSC's CHSLE 2025 allocation write-up sets 7% for UR and 10% for all other categories, including EWS. These are cycle-specific cut-offs; the CHSL 2026 examination notice does not set a typing-error percentage.

Can I use the Windows app?

Yes. The Windows app can use downloaded passages offline. The same paid activation code works on the website and in the app.

Which font do I have to use for SSC CHSL Hindi typing?

The CHSL 2026 notice requires Mangal font. This site offers Mangal InScript and Remington GAIL for practice; confirm the available key arrangement in your skill-test instructions.

Can I change my typing medium after applying?

No. The notice says the choice of medium made in the online application form is final and no change will be entertained later. Decide before you apply and practise on that language.

How many errors are allowed in the SSC CHSL typing test?

SSC's CHSLE 2025 allocation write-up sets 7% for UR and 10% for all other categories, including EWS. These are cycle-specific cut-offs; the CHSL 2026 examination notice does not set a typing-error percentage.

What is the difference between the CHSL typing test and the CHSL skill test?

They are different tasks for different posts. LDC and JSA take the Part C typing test, measured in words per minute over 10 minutes in Hindi or English. Data Entry Operators take a skill test measured in key depressions an hour over 15 minutes in English, at 15,000 for the ministries listed at para 8.1 and 8,000 elsewhere.

How does this compare with Aditya Typing?

Aditya Typing covers a similar SSC exam list and lets you download passages as a PDF, which this site does not. This site cites the CHSL 2026 notice with the clause, covers four typing languages instead of two, and runs offline on Windows. Both are free to start, and the full comparison is on our Aditya Typing alternative page.
