Which Government Jobs Require a Typing Test?
Clerical, accounts and data-entry recruitments can include different skill tests. Start with the post and selection stage in your notice, then choose the matching practice.
Posts and the skill tests to look for
| Recruitment or post | Skill stage | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| SSC CHSL LDC and JSA | Typing test | CHSL notice and practice |
| SSC CHSL Data Entry Operator | Data-entry skill test, with different standards by post | SSC DEO requirements |
| SSC CGL posts | Qualifying DEST, subject to the notice's exemptions and higher standards | CGL DEST rules |
| RRB NTPC clerical and accounts typist posts | CBTST for the posts named in the CEN | RRB post list and sources |
| PSSSB Clerk | English and Punjabi typing | PSSSB recruitment scope |
| UPSSSC Junior Assistant | Qualifying typing stage | UPSSSC Rule 10 and unresolved mechanics |
| Court clerical and assistant posts | Post-specific typing or computer test | Court-by-court guide |
Typing, data entry and shorthand need different practice
Passage typing is usually described in words per minute. A data-entry test may describe a passage in key depressions. Stenography includes listening to dictation, taking shorthand and transcribing it; this site's passage drills do not provide dictation or assess shorthand.
The SSC family guide compares these tasks. CPCT is a separate computer-proficiency assessment; read the CPCT profile if your job notice asks for that scorecard.
Check the notice before choosing a layout
Record the post name, advertisement number, language choice and skill-test stage. Look for later instructions covering duration, permitted corrections, keyboard layout and exemptions. A requirement to use Mangal names a font; it does not by itself identify the arrangement of keys.
Use the Hindi layout guide to understand the choices, and the source register to find the documents behind the profiles.
If your exact recruitment is absent
The practice directory may have a related profile. Use a general preset for speed and accuracy, but keep its settings separate from your exam's rules. Start with keyboard lessons if key positions are still unfamiliar.
