How the score works
The RRB NTPC typing skill test gives you an error allowance equal to 5% of the words used for scoring.
A full mistake counts as one error. A half mistake counts as half an error. After the free allowance is used, each extra error removes 10 words from your score.
Missed words are counted in groups. Repeated words are also counted in groups and left out of the word total used for scoring.
Your result shows the mistakes that were counted and the deductions made. Net WPM is worked out from the words left after those deductions, divided by the test time in minutes. The score cannot fall below zero.
Typing tip
If you make a mistake, keep going. Correction keys are disabled in this practice test, so stopping for too long will cost you time. You can check your mistakes on the result screen after the test.

Is the RRB NTPC typing test qualifying?
Yes. Typing test marks aren't added to your merit. RRB calls candidates equal to eight times the vacancies in each community for the typing test, based on 2nd Stage CBT marks. Final merit for the typist posts comes from the 2nd Stage CBT, among candidates who qualify in the typing test or are exempt.

RRB NTPC typing test questions
What typing speed is required for the RRB NTPC typing test?
30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi. Both the Graduate notice (CEN 06/2025) and the Undergraduate notice (CEN 07/2025) set the same speeds.
Which RRB NTPC posts need a typing test?
Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist at Graduate level, and Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist at Undergraduate level. Station Master and Traffic Assistant take an aptitude test instead, and the other posts have no skill test.
Are RRB NTPC typing test marks added to merit?
No. The typing test is qualifying. Merit for the typist posts comes from the 2nd Stage CBT, among candidates who pass the typing test or are exempt from it.
Can I use backspace in the RRB NTPC typing test?
No. The CBTST notice says the use of editing tools for correcting mistakes in the typed matter is not permitted, and the 2025 CENs say the test runs without editing tools or spell check. Backspace and the other correction keys are turned off here to match.
How long is the RRB NTPC typing test?
Ten minutes of evaluated typing. The Boards' CBTST notice for CEN 06/2024, dated 06.02.2026, describes a three-part session: one minute of typing practice to warm up and get used to the keyboard, a five-minute break, then the 10-minute test that is actually evaluated. This practice test runs the 10-minute part.
Does passing here mean I have qualified?
No. This website gives you a practice score only. Passing this test does not mean that you have qualified for any RRB recruitment stage.
What happens if I finish the passage before 10 minutes?
You retype it from the beginning. The CBTST notice says that because the skill test is there to determine speed, candidates who have completed the passage can retype it from the start within the 10 minutes. There is no finishing early: the test is ten minutes of continuous typing.
What happens if I type fewer than 300 words?
Your transcript is not evaluated at all. The CBTST notice says the transcripts of candidates who do not type 300 words in English or 250 words in Hindi within the prescribed time will not be evaluated. Accuracy does not rescue a slow attempt, so clearing the word floor comes first.
How does RRB work out my typing speed?
Mistakes are split into full and half mistakes, and total mistakes are full plus half divided by two. Five per cent of the total words you typed is then ignored, which gives the final count of mistakes. Speed is the total words typed, minus ten times that final count, divided by the time. The notice gives its own example: 400 words in 10 minutes with 10 final mistakes works out to 30 words per minute.
