RRB NTPC Typing Test Preparation

The 2025 RRB NTPC notices set the typing skill test (CBTST) at 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi, typed without editing tools or spell check. The 2024 CBTST instructions this guide first used also described a 10-minute test and a minimum of 300 English or 250 Hindi words, but that PDF couldn't be re-checked. Practise without correction keys from the start.

The timing, word minimum and error formula below are from the CEN 06/2024 CBTST special instructions dated 6 February 2026, read during the 20 September source review. The 2025 CEN notices repeat the speed and editing rules but do not establish all these mechanics for the next cycle. Check the RRB NTPC profile and your own test instructions before practising. If you're specifically on the Undergraduate notice (CEN 07/2025) and just cleared CBT 1 or CBT 2, see which posts move to CBTST next.

Train the no-correction habit before the speed

Most typing sites let you fix a mistake mid-word; the cited RRB instructions don't allow that during CBTST. That single difference is why an RRB routine copied from an ordinary typing test underperforms: a candidate used to fixing typos instinctively slows down or hesitates the moment the option disappears. Disable backspace from your very first practice session, at a pace slower than 30 WPM, and only raise the pace once wrong keys stop making you pause. Use the 10-minute test page to practise the evaluated duration without correction.

When you do hit a wrong key with corrections off, keep going from the next intended character rather than restarting the word or skipping ahead to catch up — restarting mid-sentence to "fix" an error is itself a habit that costs more words than the original mistake would have. If losing your place turns one slip into several, drop to a shorter, slower passage and use a distinctive upcoming word as a landmark to find your position again.

What the error buffer means for your target

The CEN 06/2024 instructions combine full mistakes with half mistakes divided by two, ignore an allowance of 5% of the total words typed, and deduct ten words for each remaining error unit. The simulator uses that basis; its handling of consecutive omissions and repeated words remains a site-specific interpretation. Read the scoring explanation to distinguish words typed from the final net speed.

If your net speed is stuck, the typing speed guide matches the symptom to a drill instead of adding more random passages.

Hindi typing: pick one layout and stay on it

The RRB instructions refer to Kruti Dev and Mangal font options for Hindi candidates. Whichever one your recruitment cycle actually specifies, practise only that layout — switching between InScript, Remington-style and Kruti Dev in the final weeks reintroduces exactly the hesitation the no-editing rule punishes. See the Hindi typing practice guide if you haven't picked one yet.

Log the ordinary attempt, not just the best one

Keep a record of a typical attempt alongside your personal best — the amount of text completed and where omissions happened. An RRB mock built only from your best sessions hides the exact failure pattern the no-correction rule is testing for. Confirm the current regional instructions before treating any of this as an official mock; the CEN-specific scope still matters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use backspace in the RRB NTPC typing test?

The cited RRB CBTST instructions state that editing tools for correcting typed matter are not permitted. Practise with backspace disabled so your routine matches that constraint.

What happens if I do not type the complete minimum passage?

The cited instructions say that a transcript below 300 English or 250 Hindi words is not evaluated. Build enough speed and forward rhythm to complete the minimum passage.

Is this an official RRB test?

No. This is an independent practice simulator. The regional RRB notice and the instructions issued for your cycle are authoritative.

Is there a Windows app for RRB NTPC typing practice?

Yes. This RRB NTPC profile also runs as a native Windows app on the Microsoft Store, offline, with the same locked-editing rule enforced at the OS level and the Hindi InScript, Remington and Kruti Dev layouts already bundled in. One paid key unlocks the app and the website together.
